Access to Work
Access to Work (AtW) is a financial assistance programme available to support individuals with disability or long term health condition (physical or mental). The AtW scheme is administered by the AtW team based with the Jobcentre Plus. The financial assistance is available when additional costs are incurred as a result of a disability or health condition. However, it cannot be used to provide what would be considered as support usually provided by the employer or what is required by legislation for all their employees.
Who can access the scheme?
Any employee who has a recognised disability or long term health condition, who is experiencing barriers in participating in their employment.
How do I access the scheme?
The first step is simple; you need to make a telephone call to the AtW Business Centre on 0800 1217479 (Textphone 0800 1217579) or complete an online at www.gov.uk/access-to-work form which is the easiest way to apply. The AtW Business Centre will require the following information:
- Full name
- Date of birth
- Full address
- Contact telephone number
- National insurance number
- The University’s name
- The University’s address
- Named HR/EDI contact and telephone number
- Line manager’s name and telephone number
The AtW Business Centre will pass this information onto the local AtW adviser, who will in turn contact the employee within 5 working days of this referral being made.
If I have worked at the University for a number of years can I still contact AtW?
Yes you can. You can access the scheme at any point in your employment when you have identified that support is needed to assist you in your workplace.
