Personal Tutoring

Personal Tutoring

You may be allocated Personal Tutor responsibilities to a designated group of students within your school.

As a new member of academic staff, knowing what central support is available for students and how they can help is really important. These services are all staffed with trained professionals able to support a wide range of common, as well as more complex personal and academic issues students may face, and include:

  • Student Services (encompassing Student Wellbeing and the English Language Centre)
  • Library and Learning Development
  • Careers & Employability
  • ICT Services
  • Residential/Accommodation Services
  • Students’ Union Advice Centre

Most of these services can be quickly navigated via links hosted on Blackboard through the new Assist menu tab, or My University tab – as well as appearing as quick links on the corporate desktop.

Individual schools may deliver tailored information and training as part of role induction and your school’s Senior Tutor is best placed to advise you on any local arrangements.

Safeguarding Children, Vulnerable Adults and an introduction to Student Mental Health is a mandatory online module that should be completed by all members of staff, whether providing personal tutoring support or not, and forms parts of the wider staff induction process.

In addition to the mandatory sessions, there is also a Supporting Students category which contains four modules – Supporting Students in Distress, Personal Tutoring at Lincoln, Working with International Students, and Preventing and Tackling Sexual Misconduct – all of which are recommended for Personal Tutors to complete. All online training modules can be accessed here.

Should you have queries or questions about your duties as a Personal Tutor you should raise these with the School’s Senior Tutor. A listing of all Senior Tutors can be found here.

Further resources and information on personal tutoring can also be found here.
